New Delhi, 02 July 2009: The country's largest two-wheeler maker, Hero Honda Motors Ltd, reported a 23.70% jump in its sales at 3,65,734 units in June compared to sales in the same month last year.
Its cumulative sales for the first quarter (April-June) of this fiscal registered a jump of 25.13% to 11,18,987 units from 8,94,244 units during the corresponding quarter of 2008-09, Hero Honda Motors Ltd said in a statement.
"Our performance in the month of June, as indeed in the first quarter, is very satisfying, coming as it does on the back of a high base last year," Hero Honda Motors Senior Vice-President (Marketing & Sales), Mr.Anil Dua said.
"Going forward, we will continue to stay true to our strategy, and carry on setting new benchmarks," he added.
India Yamaha Motor Ltd., the maker of premium bikes in the country, also reported a 84.39% increase in its June sales at 17,878 units against 9,699 units sold in the same month last year.
"Our focus on quality and superior bikes has clearly paid off. We have taken our performance to the next levels by launching racing kit parts for YZF-R15 and FZ Series this month..." India Yamaha Motor's Managing Director & CEO, Mr.Yukimine Tsuji said in a statement.
Products like the FZ-S, FZ-16 and YZF-R15 have helped India Yamaha in achieving the results, the company added.
TVS Motors also reported a 6% increase in its sales at 1,15,448 units in June against 1,09,082 units in the same month last year.
The company's sales growth was mainly due to its scooter sales which rose by 20.8% to 25,945 units in June compared to 21,466 units in the same month last year, TVS Motor said in a statement.
The company sold 46,048 motorcycles in June 2009 against 51,409 units in the same month last year.
Exports, however, was down by 32.8% to 10,087 units against 15,010 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Meanwhile, rivals Bajaj Auto Ltd.(BAL) reported a 4.52% fall in motorcycle sales at 1,67,945 units in June against 1,75,903 units in the same month last year.
BAL's total two-wheeler sales during the month stood at 1,68,471 units, a decrease of 4.88% over the same month last year, the company said in a statement.
BAL's exports, however, went up by 4.39% to 67,726 units in June from 64,878 units a year ago.
The company's total vehicle sales stood at 1,93,202 units last month compared to 1,96,741 units in the same period a year ago, down 1.80%, the statement said.
"With the launch of the new Pulsar 220 DTS-i in June, Bajaj expects Pulsar sales to rise further beyond 48,062 units it sold in June," BAL said, adding that it expects to record double digit growth in motorcycle sales from August after the coming launch of its new large volume motorcycle this month.
